What do pass line odds and come odds pay in craps?

Odds bets pay true odds: 2 to 1 on the 4 or 10, 3 to 2 on the 5 or 9, and 6 to 5 on the 6 or 8. The flat bet itself, the pass line or the come bet, pays even money; only the odds bet behind it pays true odds.

Maximum 3-4-5x odds behind a $10 flat bet
PointOdds payMost odds allowedOdds betPays
4 or 102 to 13x$30$60
5 or 93 to 24x$40$60
6 or 86 to 55x$50$60

The proper amount

An odds bet should be in an amount that pays in whole dollars. On the 4 or 10 any dollar amount works: $10 pays $20. On the 5 or 9 use even dollars, because 3 to 2 on $10 pays $15 but $5 pays $7.50. On the 6 or 8 use multiples of $5: $10 pays $12.

What 3-4-5x means

Behind a $10 pass line bet, a player may take up to $30 in odds on a 4 or 10, $40 on a 5 or 9, and $50 on a 6 or 8. Every one of those pays $60 when the point is made. That’s the point of 3-4-5x: the maximum odds on each number win the same amount.

Come bets

A come bet travels to its own number, and the odds sit on top of it. They pay the same true odds as pass line odds. When a come bet’s number rolls, pay the flat bet even money and the odds at true odds.

The odds on a come bet are off on the come-out roll. If a 7 rolls then, the odds are returned to the player, not lost.

House rules vary

  • Maximum odds. 3-4-5x is common, but many casinos offer 2x, 5x, 10x or more. Check the table’s sign.
  • Odds on the come-out. We default to come odds off on the come-out roll. A casino may leave them working if the player asks.
